Generate members
Generated members are Contributor accounts that you can create in your team without sending an invitation. You can add them to projects and switch to a generated member from the Data tab or Editor to test and use the platform as that member would experience it.
Actions you perform while working as a generated member are recorded under that generated member and linked to your own account.
Permissions
- Team Owners and Team Admins can generate members. Contributors can also generate members when they have the Invite Contributors to team permission.
- Team Owners and Team Admins can switch to generated members in any project. Contributors can switch to generated members in projects where they are a Project Admin.
- In the Editor, the Switch to generated member selector is not available while the user’s activity is paused.
- Contributor permissions aren’t applicable to generated members.
Generate members
To generate one or multiple members:
- Go to the Members tab in Team Setup.
- Click + Add Members.
- Click Generate.
- Enter the member's first and last name.
- To generate multiple members at once, click + Add and enter the first and last name for each additional member.
- Optionally, select a group, starting project, and project role.
- Click Generate.
Generated members are always created with the Contributor team role. SuperAnnotate automatically generates an email address for each generated member, but no emails are sent to them.
After generation, they appear in the Members table as Contributors and are identified as a Generated member.
Generated member limitsYou can have up to 100 generated members per team. Generated members also count toward the organization's member limit.
If you try to generate multiple members and there is only capacity for some of them, SuperAnnotate generates as many as the applicable limit allows.
Manage generated members
Generated members support the same functionality as regular Contributors, including:
- custom fields
- pausing and resuming user activity
- adding and removing categories within projects
Generated members can be shared with any project and assigned a project role, including Project Admin.
A generated member can only have the Contributor team role and cannot be promoted to Team Admin. In addition, additional team- or project-level permissions aren’t applicable to Generated members.
The member page identifies the user as a Generated member. The Work Schedule and Permissions sections are not available for generated members.
Switch to a generated member
You can switch to a generated member to view and work with the project based on that member's project role and access.
Switch from the Data tab
- Open the project and go to the Data tab.
- Click Switch to generated member in the top bar.
- Select a generated member from the list.
Switch from the Editor
- Open an item in the Editor.
- Click Switch to generated member.
- Select a generated member from the list.
The list shows the generated members shared with the current project and their project roles.
If you have permission to generate members, click Generate member in the selector to open the Members tab in a new browser tab.
Working as a generated member
After you select a generated member, the Data tab and Editor use that member's project role, permissions, and item access.
- Only items available to the generated member according to the project workflow can be viewed when opened. If items unavailable to the generated member are opened, you won’t see any of the contents.
- Editor controls and actions reflect what is available to that member, including annotating, saving changes, and changing item status.
- Comments and tracked time are attributed to the generated member.
- Some other areas of the platform are unavailable while generated member mode is active. Exit generated member mode to access a disabled section.
A paused generated member has the same restrictions as a paused Contributor.
When you exit generated member mode, your own permissions and tracked time are restored.
Generated member sessions
Generated member mode remains active when you:
- refresh or reload the page
- navigate between the Data tab and Editor
- open another item in the same project
- switch from one generated member to another
The session ends when you:
- click Exit in the information alert
- clear the generated member from the selector
- switch to another team or project
- lose access to the current project or team
are paused - log out or your authentication session expires
About generated member sessions
- Multiple users can work as the same generated member at the same time. Each acting user's session is independent.
- Entering, switching, or exiting generated member mode in the Editor reloads the page. If you have unsaved changes, your browser prompts you before reloading. If you cancel, your current mode and selection remain unchanged.
