Annotation

Create an instance

The Image (Legacy) Editor has 4 annotation tools: Polygon, Brush, Box, and Ellipse.

Polygon

To annotate with the Polygon tool:

  1. In the left panel, select the Polygon tool or press Z on the keyboard.
  2. Click where you want to start outlining the object.
  3. Click to place the points of the polygon.
  4. Finish the annotation by clicking the starting point.
  5. Press the spacebar on the keyboard to create the instance.

Brush

To annotate with the Brush tool:

  1. In the left panel, select the Brush tool or press X on the keyboard.
  2. Adjust the brush size in the top panel (optional).
  3. Brush over the object you want to annotate.
  4. Press the spacebar on the keyboard to create the instance.

Box

To annotate with the Box tool:

  1. In the left panel, select the Box tool or press M on the keyboard.
  2. Draw a box to outline the object.
  3. Click when you're done.
  4. Press the spacebar on the keyboard to create the instance.

Ellipse

To annotate with the Ellipse tool:

  1. In the left panel, select the Ellipse tool or press J on the keyboard.
  2. Draw a line to set the diameter, then click.
  3. Move the ellipse upwards or downwards to determine its size, then click.
  4. Press the spacebar on the keyboard to create the instance.

Keyboard navigation

  • To move around an image while annotating, you can click and hold the scroll wheel and move the mouse, or you can use the W, A, S, and D keys. Press W and S to go up and down, and press A and D to go left and right.
  • Press on the keyboard to move to the next image and to move to the previous image.

Zoom level

  • The zoom level is maintained the same while switching between images.

  • If you zoom in on an image and switch to another one where the zoom coordinates are missing, the zoom level will be reset to the default level.

Adjust an instance

Use the following tools to adjust instances: Eraser Brush, Eraser Polygon, Eraser Ellipse, and Eraser Box.

Eraser Polygon

  1. In the left panel, right-click on the Polygon tool. You can also press Shift + Z on the keyboard and skip to step 3.
  2. Select Eraser Polygon.
  3. Draw a polygon over the areas you want to delete.

Eraser Brush

To use the Eraser Brush:

  1. In the left panel, right-click on the Brush tool. You can also press Shift + X on the keyboard and skip to step 3.
  2. Select Eraser Brush.
  3. Brush over the areas you want to delete.

Eraser Box

  1. In the left panel, right-click on the Box tool. You can also press Shift + M on the keyboard and skip to step 3.
  2. Select Eraser Box.
  3. Draw a box over the areas you want to delete.

Eraser Ellipse

  1. In the left panel, right-click on the Ellipse tool. You can also press Shift + J on the keyboard and skip to step 3.
  2. Select Eraser Ellipse.
  3. Draw an ellipse over the areas you want to delete.

Holding down the Shift button while using a tool will activate its Eraser.

Delete an instance

To delete an instance:

  1. Select the instance in the canvas to highlight it in the right panel.
  2. Click the X button that corresponds to the instance.

To delete all the instances:

  1. Click Revert (delete icon) in the right panel.
  2. In the popup, click Yes.
